How to get to the Isle of Mull

Option 1: Oban to Craignure

The most direct route to Mull is by ferry from Oban, which drops you at Craignure. The journey takes 46 minutes. This route is best booked in advance, especially for passengers travelling with a vehicle. You can find the summer timetable for 2022 here.

Option 2: Lochaline to Fishnish

The Lochaline to Fishnish ferry is quicker than the Oban to Craignure ferry; taking around 20 minutes. However, you must first drive to Lochaline which does not have the transport links of Oban. This ferry cannot be pre-booked; making it the perfect option for a last minute trip.

Option 3: Kilchoan to Tobermory

Kilchoan to Tobermory takes around 35 minutes and once again, can’t be booked in advance. Kilchoan is a village on the Scottish peninsula of Ardnamurchan. It may not be easily accessible but as the most westerly village on mainland Great Britain – it’s well worth a visit.

How to get to Oban

Travelling to Oban, on the west coast of Scotland, is a joy. Around three hours by car from Glasgow or Edinburgh and less than 2 hours from Stirling.

If you come by train, the journey takes you along the world-famous West Highland Line. ScotRail runs trains six times a day from Glasgow Queen Street Station to Oban (two on Sunday). For times and prices visit the Scotrail site.

Travelling by bike? Oban is on Route 78 of the National Cycle Network which goes up to Fort William and down to Campbeltown. Visit the Sustrans website for more information.
